As every generation grows there needs to be an exchange to be able to communicate with them. Many of us spend alot of time on the web and I think using it for raising money should be a new tactic for nonprofit fundraising.
With so many ways to contribute nowadays it is easier to donate and maybe thats why we see younger generations are giving more. It may also be in small amounts but that collectively the donations are big.

I agree with many of the comments that mjleach87 made. Obama and many others are making a lot of money off of utilizing the internet as a selling tool. Maybe the non-profits need to adapt some of the same ethics as politicians. Maybe the non-profits aren't paying the marketing people as much as the VP's, so maybe they just don't want to do the work. Pay them 120-200k and I get they will come-up with good planning on acquiring money.

Because of the current economic conditions in our country, charities are reporting lower donations. The new ways of giving could help organizations raise millions of dollars by having many people donating small amounts. From what I have read, many nonprofits get their money from companies which are now undergoing financial hardships. Certainly raising money the new way has been proven successful during this campaign season.

I read your blog and I had to go look at the comments. I think it is so funny that people throw the term "socialism" around so freely these days. If giving to charities that help the needy, or nonprofits that are doing great work around the country and the world is socialism then what is compassion? There are some people out there with very warped world views and in these few weeks before this extremely important election they are out to play. I think the "new ways of giving" in terms of the internet etc can be summarized by Obama's campaign. He has raised ridiculous amounts of money using the internet, more than any other campaign. Nonprofits can also use these same resources, although their cause may not be as exigent to some.

I have not heard of this view that the younger generation is more willing to donate because of the number of different methods available to people now. Personally, I still tend to believe our generation is a bit more self-interested but I can definitely believe technology has spawned the youth to donate through a variety of convenient methods. But thanks for the article, a point I've yet to see,it reassures me that our generation won't become a failure.
